very important observation. its also the province with the starkest land ownership issue. there are absolutely no villages, except some people crammed somewhere in the middle of nowhere in ramshackles. this has always struck me when i drove through the Free State!

The Free State is the place where the idea of the Natives not owing land came from. So when the Union was formed, it was made up of Four provinces and the Free State had the most oppressive laws for Natives so the legal system was that was adopted was the one from Free State
