Future mineral demand can be met without #deepseamining. We need to urgently transition from fossil fuels to renewable energy, but not at the expense of untouched, biodiverse deep #ocean ecosystems, which are also significant carbon sinks. Read here 👉wwf.panda.org/discover/our_f…
We need to invest in technological innovation and #CircularEconomy for a green transition so we decrease the material bottlenecks for the growth of low-carbon technologies. Read more in our new report: sintef.brage.unit.no/sintef-xmlui/h…
How much does oil use need to go down in a 1.5°C scenario, with no or low overshoot? According to IPCC SR15 scenarios, ~20% from 2020 to 2030 & ~60% to 2050, where I have selected scenarios most consistent with history. IEA to 70% in 2050, probably since less use of CDR.

Remarkable numbers. I think the last 20% will be hard, but it is fleet share that really matters in the end, so even holding new sales in this range for the next few years has a big impact.
Norway car sales Sep 2020: Record share of #ElectricVehicles at 81.6%! BEVs at 61.5%. Pure diesel down to 5%. 13% of all cars was the new electric VW ID.3. #elbil @colinmckerrache ofv.no/aktuelt/2020/8…
Sad days for Brazil. It's hard to be positive about #climatechange #mitigation while the #AmazonForest burns. The climate and environmental policies in Brazil have been destroyed. I wish that Bolsonaro's gov effects will be just a short nightmare, and not BAU scenario from now on
Smoke from wildfires in the #AmazonRainforest spreads across several Brazilian states in this natural-color image taken by a @NASAEarth instrument on the Suomi NPP satellite. Although it is fire season in Brazil, the number of fires may be record-setting: go.nasa.gov/2zbdf9f

#ClimateAction is not a threat to jobs, our new study shows. #Employment gains in most countries due to spillovers from cleaner technologies are higher than losses in "dirty" sectors. However, job losses and creations are not necessarily in same place dx.doi.org//10.1111/ilr.1…
We tried modelling the global biodiversity impacts of the shift between different vegetable oils doi.org/10.1088/1748-9… Increased use of palm oil has a significant impact on biodiversity loss, but soy is very high as well #palmoil #soy #environmentalfootprints @indecol @TheIIOA

We should dream of, discuss, and eventually fight for a different publishing system for sustainability research. What are the differences in the economic data in different MRIOs and where do they come from? Which global MRIO should we use for what? Those questions were raised by Dr. @kiwioice and discussed with MRIO developers, users and statistical offices representatives at @TheIIOA
Eivind Bjelle presented his approach to add more countries to #EXIOBASE using FAO, IEA and trade data. Although not contributing much to global GDP, trade or CO2 emissions, these "Rest of the World" regions stand out in population, land and water use. @indecol @TheIIOA #IIOA2018
Biodiversity footprints of different vegetable oils increased between 2000 and 2010, and palm oil and soy are leading major biodiversity impacts. Johannes Többen presented the results from the integration of physical FAO data and GIS with #EXIOBASE at #IIOA2018 @TheIIOA @indecol
