It was 57 years ago this month two neighbourhood rinks in Kingston, ON opened - named after Stanley Cup champions. The Cook Brothers Arena (Bill & Bun Cook) and the Wally Elmer Youth Centre. Both rinks decommissioned after the 4-pad Invista Centre opened in #ygk in 2008.

Joe Scherer who played for the Kingston Canadians & Kingston Voyageurs in the late 1970’s has died at age 64. Scherer also played for Larry Mavety’s Belleville Bulls team that went to the Centennial Cup final in 1981. His father Punch Scherer was the first GM in Kingston.

Sad to learn of the passing of Freda Coyle. For decades Freda ran the media room at @KingstonFronts games with her trademark hugs and homemade cookies. Fondly remembered by @OHLHockey media & NHL scouts. Her late husband Len was a longtime trainer with the Fronts.
