A fun time of math games with my boy! Thanks to the teachers and volunteers that organized and led the event! @EC_Thunderbirds #TVDSBMath
Happy Halloween from the Woodland Heights Grade 1/2 teachers! Our number talk from today: How many dots in all on Mrs. Scott and Mrs. Mittal? #TVDSBMath #woodlandheights
Students gathered at the wonder window, watching the landscapers cut back some tree branches in the courtyard. This generated lots of questions! “What tools are they using?” “Are they hurting the trees?” “Why are they wearing ear protectors?” I love their curiosity! #inquiry
Looking forward to participating in the @globalreadaloud this year! We will be connecting with a Grade 1 class from San Jose, California to share our thinking about the books. So excited! #gra2018
I love having a kid the same age as my students so he can be my classroom activities tester!
We had a great day celebrating #DotDay! From reading The Dot, to making painted dot patterns, a dot number talk, concentric circle dots in art and a collaborative dot mural! “Just make a mark and see where it takes you.” #grade1/2 #TVDSB @woodheightsps
As you prep for another exciting school year, remember that some students are terrified to step into your classroom. My son, adorable as he is, does not want to go back. He doesn’t think he will fit in. He doesn’t think he will be as smart as the others. Proceed accordingly.
My dad came to school as a special guest today to talk to the Gr. 1s about how ice cream is made in the factory, and then helped us make some ice cream in our classroom! So much fun!
Ss were excited to track the growth stages of their very own bean plants. We used a calendar to count the days between planting the seed and the fully grown plant. Then we recorded our observations with a labelled drawing! #livingthings #elapsedtime #crosscurricularlearning
Students were challenged to demonstrate their learning about decomposing 13 after our visit from the King of Thirteenium (@Kylede08). They drew their own Kindom of 13 and wrote a number sentence about one set of items in their land. Lots of excitement in math today! #TVDSBMath
Exploring the meaning of the equal sign by balancing equations on a scale. #tvdsbmath #grade1
Picked up this great fabric from Ikea with the plan of making ten frames & hundred charts for the classroom. My daughter wanted to test it out, so she put a duplo block per square and we counted together, practicing one-to-one correspondence. #handsonmath #numeracy #openendedplay
Using #Seesaw on the iPads to document our learning about place value, with our student created place value tools. @WilfridJuryPS #TVDSBMath #grade1 #handsonlearning
Some spatial awareness fun with my kids over March Break! Thanks to @LindseyZwolak and @HawthornKinder2 for the DIY Tetris blocks inspiration. #Blokus #Tetris #spatialreasoning #handsonlearning
A good reminder.
The happiest teachers don't have the best of students. But they do see the best in their students! What you see is what you get! #edchat
