"Phonics is killing a love of reading!" Try telling that to this nearly six year old who just realised that he could read his big sister's Harry Potter book! He's ABSOLUTELY BUZZING and so proud of himself. Explicit instruction and lots of reading practise opens that 'door'!

What a fantastic day. Thank you so much @MTSLD2021 ! Reading and writing are not natural- the facts and multidisciplinary research PROVES that students require explicit , structured literacy! This is not opinion, but facts. Our kids deserve best practice!
BARTER & TRADE! 🫱🏼🫲🏾 During today’s Treaty studies, students in room 9 learned about bartering and trading! We then put our learning to practice at the ROOM 9 TRADE POST! Each student received a barter bag. They had to communicate with their classmates to seal some fair deals! 🫱🏼🫲🏾

Writing criteria ✍️ so important to allow children to build their own criteria! The anchor chart becomes useful & meaningful, allowing students to have independence & encourages self-assessment.
