Well done @mulecc - your PhD work just published 😀nature.com/articles/s4146… I think we've only scratched the surface with this... H-NS allowing bacteria to direct their own evolution. Exciting times ahead...

Really excited to share this. A massive effort from @mulecc. We find that H-NS isn't just for gene silencing. All this time it's been busy capturing transposons, and inserting them into bound DNA. We think there are some big implications (1/4) biorxiv.org/content/10.110…

Latest paper from the lab, this one's the culmination of @lucas_walker92's PhD. He describes how two TFs can bind the same DNA site to regulate in V. cholerae. A simple mechanism for integration of quorum sensing and cAMP signalling in V. cholerae biorxiv.org/content/10.110…

@Hannahmayyd suffered that we don't have to! ChemGAPP is a very easy to use software package that people without sophisticated programming skills can analyse their chemical genomics data. Check it out.

Went n won a poster prize at the Molecular Microbiology conference. So answered a couple of questions about it:

Next up for our interview with recent poster award winners at the 7th Molecular Microbiology conference is David Forrest @fozzz21 for their work ‘No non-sense: Prevention of non-specific transcription in Bacillus subtilis’ @GraingerLab Read it below 👇 onlinelibrary.wiley.com/do/10.1111/mmi…

Hypertension is a risk factor for neurodegeneration, and the choroid plexus may play a critical role in this process. But how can we use MRI to look at the damage non-invasively? Find out more today: doi.org/10.3389/fnmol.… #AD #MRI @CABI_UCL 🧠🧲

🧵on the latest @DETECTIVE_AMR manuscript, which might be my favourite so far. It's about a quirky group of plasmids that accumulate and disseminate all sorts of accessory genes in Acinetobacter... 1/20 microbiologyresearch.org/content/journa…

I mis-clicked on one of my 150 open tabs and it happened to be a tab that's been open since 2019 with a paper that has a solution to the exact research problem I've been puzzling over today. This is the moment I've been waiting for and I've decided to never close any tabs again

First bit of work from my PhD looking at sequence type pangenomes and how they vary in structure and content - very pleased to have this out! 🥳 @alanmcn1 @DrRebeccaJHall @jomcinerney @chris_h_connor biorxiv.org/content/10.110…

E. coli packs a genome into cell 1/1000th of its length, duplicates it, and sends a copy to each daughter cell every twenty minutes. It's humiliating.
