It's amusing how so many people in Britain still use the phrase "gas board", even though the actual gas boards only existed from 1948 to 1972.

In an unusual auction lot - the common link seems to be penny-farthings - are two stoneware bottles "The Doctor's Stout" for R Emmerson Jr of Newcastle upon Tyne. His Aerated Water Manufactory was on George Street, Newcastle. He sold it to James Deuchar in 1900. Image: Bonhams
