A few years ago a skinhead pulled a knife on a friend and me. There was a scuffle, my friend got hurt (not knifed) and we ran. Later I went to a store owned by a German-Sri Lankan Tamil friend who after hearing what happened hugged me and asked, "First time?".
Yesterday at Biergarten outside of Berlin, a man went on a drunken anti-immigrant rant about the Deutsche Volk, how "they" (read immigrants) don't work and how the Deutsche Volk need to stand together. Nobody said a thing and I was the only Ausländer.
This whole experience of being a migrant humbled me, I'm sympathetic to migrants elsewhere and made me reevaluate my own privileges I've had coming from India. If there's anyone who you find lonely or in need of help, say a word or two. Make a meal, idk, don't be an asshole.

I'm more vary of the racist lefty-okovegan-bougie-arsed-white-German than your average Nazi, as their racism is more toxic and invisible to the casual observer. It's dipped in the veneer of inclusivity but has the same othering qualities of xenophobia as the rabidest skinners.
