Animals are living creatures that experience fear & pain. Leaving them to suffer & die alone in a storm is inhumane. People evacuate with both their children & pets every year. If you can’t take your pets with you, either leave them with someone else or please do not have pets.
Some shelters don't allow pets and in the rain aftermath, like with Florence, sometimes those never planning to need to evacuate had to quite suddenly, due to roads washing out, rivers and lakes flooding. If it's your child's life and safety vs pet, there may be no choice.
