I don't think we understand how much of a big deal the catastrophe bond is and how much foresight was involved here. Huge kudos to former Finance Minister Dr. Nigel Clarke and the Government of Jamaica for their forward-thinking leadership in securing the US$150M parametric…
Today, I’m pleased to announce the launch of supportjamaica.gov.jm, the Government of Jamaica’s official platform to coordinate relief, mobilize support, and manage recovery efforts in the wake of Hurricane Melissa. The site allows users to donate securely, submit pledges,…
Jamaica has hurricane insurance. Had this not been in place, we would be pressured to borrow more or to increase taxes to finance our recovery. The insurance contains the stress on the budget and stretches it further. Good for a vulnerable country and economy.

Yes you do and since everybody kowtows to you, when you meet someone who rejects the condescending tone you get upset. If you have ever met a Jamaican in your life, you know we don’t take well to that kind of tone. No matter how powerful you are.
This post epitomises why most ppl can’t stand Americans. They are so insular, they don’t even realise how they come across. How can you make even a natural disaster happening in another country all about you?
She is speaking from experience. She has gotten used to “using her inside voice” lest Trump overhears them and slap on another 10% tariff😂😂😂😂
Reign it in. You should conduct yourselves in a manner that makes your culture proud. Foreigners don't understand your patois & people carrying on. If you truly have the predicted disaster, it won't be a good look, as J'ca will need a lot of help. Speak in your inside voice.
I’m not surprised at how Americans have made this hurricane all about themselves and not the people in its path. I am however surprised by this response from a Canadian. Notice who you are asking to rein it in? Not the bullies who live next door to you.

Who knew magnets were such a polarizing issue?
World Athletics is deeply saddened to hear that Jamaica’s George Rhoden, winner of the 400m and 4x400m at the 1952 Olympics, died on Saturday (24) at the age of 97.
Until we've coined a name that includes the English speaking caribbean countries, Belize, Suriname and Guyana which share such strong cultural and historical ties, I suspect we will continue to use the word West Indian.
There is nosuck thing as West Indian or West Indies, it is called Caribbean.
Brendan’s new go fund me has dropped and this time it’s all for Brendan, the person who actually experienced the horror of returning home from a 12 hour shift as a carer to find his car destroyed! Dig deep if you can folks.
Brendan's car was destroyed during the Middlesbrough riots. He needs our help to rebuild his life. Donate and share to support his journey back to stability. Every bit counts. #SupportBrendan gofund.me/9928e433
This is brilliant! The French journalist asks #ImaneKhelif to speak in French, assuming that since France colonised Algeria, Imane must be Francophone. She told him in English that she will answer in Arabic! This deserves another medal.
Imane Khelif speaks after her victory: "I was born a girl, I grew up a girl, I studied as a girl and I fought like a girl. Those who attacked me? Of course, they were enemies of glory. But, without them, my victory would not have been so satisfying."
The entire process has been a mess 4 yrs & aths have been shafted all along. Dodd is right to speak out & I & others will defend her right to speak. I used to see the emails/calls to Portia SM from aths esp those abroad, but Teddy & Fudge et al were her pals. Diack $ helped.
There are 9 people in Paris that the JAAA has listed as "personal coaches." Dearest gentle reader some of them are NOT coaches. So yes Thomas Dodd's coach could & should have been there.
Big up Yona! Jamaica’s flag bearer in Diving for a number of years. Thank you for taking up space in an area where we’re almost never seen! We’re proud of you 🇯🇲🙏🏽
Sure they blend in and assimilate. Even learning the language and the culture.

The last time Jamaica failed to earn a medal in the women's 100m at an Olympic games was 36 years ago (1988)! More than half the current population has no recollection before today of Jamaica not being on that podium.
