the quiet, calm docs are the absolute best
THIS. And it goes for any emergent procedure, as well as traumas and codes. I worked almost daily with a confident ED doc who purposefully was very quiet when entering a chaotic room, because he wanted the energy to come down to his level of calm before proceeding.
I've been thinking about compassion and pediatricians. There's an idea that pediatricians are "softer" than internal medicine docs because we take care of kids. And kids are cute! Funny! Sticky! 1/

look at your kid before you look at your monitor. look at your waveforms, talk to the parents. move the kid, readjust. know when to ask for help.
