You won't want to hear this but it's not really private equity firms scooping up all the single-family homes, it's H-1B (and former H-1B) big tech employees buying them on leverage against their RSU's and renting them out for additional income.
For houses to be a profitable investment, they have to get less and less affordable for your kids and grandkids, every year, forever.
