The Netherlands has shut 23 prisons since 2014; their prison population has halved since 2004; during the ten years from 2008, Dutch prison sentences dropped by a quarter and jail terms for young offenders by two thirds, while their crime rate dropped by 40 per cent.

A visit to one the local upw project yesterday in part to mark 50 years of community pay back. And yes I did get my hands dirty for a bit and mucked in. Really enjoyed chatting to the men on the project about their journeys and how we can perhaps improve #50years
SEEDS 2 training today and tomorrow, serendipity shines with my current essay also being focused on balancing a person centred approach with public protection. Relationship for me has always been at the core of affective probation work.
A very thoughtful Christmas gift. I have had a couple of conversations recently about how it can be beneficial to slow down the thought process especially in time of pressure. I am a firm believe in personnal development and working my own area of improvement.
