For evidence-based Green politics. Nuclear: energy dense, clean & safe. GM: it's about traits not methods. Reformer. Dilettante. Iconoclast. Human.

Another pro-nuclear victory! European Parliament votes 322-298 to reject the nuclear phase-out promoted by Germany and fake climate activists: @Greenpeace @WWF @europeangreens Germany supported labeling natural gas "green" instead world-nuclear-news.org/Articles/Nucle…
Yesterday, Poland had a higher share of RE than Germany.
If you feel like making a difference today then type your name here! We need the European Union to get serious on climate action by recognising that nuclear energy is a sustainable low-carbon energy option openpetition.eu/!bqvsj via @oPetition
Government has an important role, too. It must remove the legislative barriers to low carbon power generation technologies - Nuclear and CCS (carbon capture and storage) - to show that Gov't is also willing to change and to lead those changes when required.

More evidence of YouTube rightwing radicalization. In a study of >79 million YouTube comments, @manoelribeiro et. al. shows that a high % of people who now comment on Alt-Right videos used to comment exclusively on IDW or Alt-lite videos. arxiv.org/abs/1908.08313
Great to see Ireland starting to look at new nuclear. We should research the small reactors now coming to market that offer real improvements in safety, size and cost. RE + Nuclear = 0 Emissions @ellamcsweeney

Is it time to give nuclear power a chance?
Nuclear could be the solution to our insatiable hunger for energy and urgent need to combat climate change
Nuclear is our best source of energy & yet it's under attack everywhere Enough is enough. On Oct 20, 2019, pro-nuclear people will "Stand Up for Nuclear" in dozens of cities around the world Will you help make history? Sign up today — & please share! standupfornuclear.org
Why does this feel more like one way to bash progressives than one way to save the planet? It's lamentable that complimentary *solutions to climate change* are becoming politically partisan.

One way to save the planet: Build more nuclear plants
About 30 miles north of Manhattan, the Indian Point Energy Center looms over the banks of the Hudson. It produces 11 percent of the electricity consumed in New York state and a quarter of the power...
Congratulations to Katie Bouman to whom we owe the first photograph of a black hole ever. Not seeing her name circulate nearly enough in the press. Amazing work. And here’s to more women in science (getting their credit and being remembered in history) 💥🔥☄️
“While no nation has created a near-zero carbon electricity supply out of solar and wind, the only successful efforts to do so, France and Sweden, didn’t require solar or wind whatsoever.” forbes.com/sites/michaels…
I hope #BluePlanetLive will go large on commercial fishing tonight. Though it's by far the biggest current threat to marine life, Blue Planet 2 gave it a free pass. I'll watch with interest.
I'm not sure it really matters exactly when Patrick Moore joined Greenpeace all those years ago. The fact that he is now a dedicated climate denier means he is just a useful idiot for Donald Trump to hype up. Ignore!
Patrick Moore was not a co-founder of Greenpeace. He does not represent Greenpeace. He is a paid lobbyist, not an independent source. His statements about @AOC & the #GreenNewDeal have nothing to do with our positions. bit.ly/2Tf6LCA
1. World's leading Chernobyl experts & radiation scientists are condemning as junk science the new book "Manual for Survival" by Kate Brown published today. It is to nuclear power what "vaccines cause autism" was to vaccines. Attached is a devastating 12-page review. Please share

“Saying the unsayable” is a fabulous strand of mock heroics.
Essential thread, esp with respect to the oft-repeated line that we have 12 years to save the world.
When it comes to what climate goals we should be aiming for, there are a lot of "magic numbers" floating around - 2 degrees, 12 years, 350ppm, net zero emissions, and more. Here's a short thread explaining the scientific basis--or lack thereof--for each.
This nonsense is exactly why nationalism has no answers to the major environmental and social problems of our time.

Germany’s emissions have flatlined & electricity costs have increased 50% since they invested $580B in a renewables-heavy electrical grid. France produces 1/10th the emissions per unit of electricity as Germany & pays half for its electricity. Guess how. quillette.com/2019/02/27/why…
I know this is an unpopular point, but worth making anyway: without Brexit the disastrous impact of agricultural subsidies and common fisheries will continue. Brexit does at least give us an opportunity to restore ecosystems and improve food production in UK farmland.
