Climate finance has become a cruel joke. The so-called “support” that Africa receives comes in the form of loans with strings attached, at higher interest rates than what rich polluters pay. This leaves African treasuries strapped while droughts and floods keep draining…

The fix is justice: real, accountable finance; emissions cuts not carbon markets; clean supply chains that stop exploitation; and Global South leadership in shaping the transition. Leadership means structural change, not loopholes and foot dragging. powershiftafrica.org/blog/donald-tr… 8/8
The real con artists are not climate scientists but elites who have turned planetary survival into a market opportunity that preserves privilege. The crisis is urgent — but the “solutions” risk entrenching inequality. 7/
Con Job 5 — Disaster tourism and charity optics. Photo ops and aid spectacles substitute for justice and reparations, normalising a charity model that keeps the South dependent and ignored in structural solutions. 6/
Con Job 4 — Net zero by never. Distant net‑zero targets let rich countries keep burning now while evading accountability for military emissions, consumption footprints, and ongoing fossil expansion. 5/
Con Job 3 — Phantom climate finance. Promised funds like the $100bn never arrived as real grants. Instead the South gets debt, loans tied to Western contracts, and funding that boomerangs back to Northern companies. 4/
Con Job 2 — The green tech racket. The North’s clean-energy dream depends on minerals mined in the Global South, often through exploitative, polluting and even child‑labour supply chains, repeating old extraction patterns under a green label. 3/
Con Job 1 — Carbon markets. Marketised offsets let rich polluters buy forgiveness while outsourcing forest protection and displacement to vulnerable communities, often dispossessing indigenous people and protecting sinks that weren’t threatened. 2/
When Trump called climate change a “con job” many rolled their eyes. The truth is, the scam isn’t the science - that's solid - it’s the Global North’s response, which shifts costs & harms onto the Global South. Our piece on the real climate con: powershiftafrica.org/blog/donald-tr… 🧵👇🏿
Exactly. Enough with the analysis. Let's act.
