One of the crazy things about this case (for me at least) is that it doesn't strike me as extraordinary at all. There are so many people (esp. men) like this in Ecology.

I just don't get this. Who is teaching students to use the passive voice? Surely it can only be people who have never read any scientific journals. Can someone please explain?
The other day in my Scientific Writing class, I asked students how many had been taught NOT to use I/we or the active voice in #ScientificWriting. Almost every hand went up. This makes me sad. Writing is hard enough without our teaching like it's still the 1960s!
The umpteenth request for being involved in a network of female scientists. We were unequivocal in our message: we don't need more networks, more stories, more free labour. We know what needs to happen. WE NEED THE REGULATIONS, MEASURES AND CONSTRUCTIONS TO BE PUT IN PLACE.
congratulations Katie! @quirkus44

Note that this is at a time where a Dutch professor of astronomy has been laid off after years of bullying and sexism. It feels like @MarcelLevi - again: the Director of the Dutch Science Foundation! - is dismissing the victims and justifying this type of behaviour.
Levi's views also seem to oppose the efforts of @_knaw and @VSNUtweets to make Dutch academia a safer place. Very strange indeed.
A very, very strange op-ed of the director of the Dutch Science Foundation, in which he implies that people who feel unsafe at work don’t want to work hard, want a new office chair, or are just trying to get rid of a colleague.
Before the next election, you might want to find a better way to poll anyone under the age of 30 since they would rather pick up a pinless grenade than a call from an unknown number.
1/ I'm back to feeling excluded. Recently I got an invitation to an evening networking event that thought leaders in my professional field attend. I can't go. Because it's not local to me and I have no childcare arrangement for that evening. Not a big deal? Please hear me out..
lord of the rings may have been filmed in New Zealand but all that stuff happened for real in New Jersey
