US tariffs on India are not b’coz of trade imbalance or Russia oil purchase, it is b’coz Modi-Trump bromance has soured. But India-US relns are larger & driven by national interest and will survive the ups and downs of the bromance.

Exclusive: #India’s former Ambassador Rakesh Sood speaks on #Modi, #Trump, China, and Russia. Plus, Lebanese MP Marwan Hamadeh on rebuilding a nation in crisis. Watch the full episode of Global News Today. #GNT @rakeshnms

India-China relns were frozen after 2020. Thaw began with Kazan meeting btw Modi-Xi in Oct ‘24. But given the boundary question where only disengagement has happened, no deescation and de induction & growing China-Pak security ties, warming up of ties is unlikely. My take

How much of #Xi’s rhetoric resonates with #Modi? Rakesh Sood, Former Indian Ambassador, offers his perspective. #GNT @rakeshnms

Good ties between ldrs can help but cannot replace natl interests. To give these primacy only brings in egos & pomp. Modi and Trump egos have now come in the way of realising the natural promise of India-US relns. I write for @htTweets

If India can play cricket with Pakistan, why can’t it trade? Why can’t it allow travel?

Top class piece on the duplicity of GOI and BCCI on Asia Cup. The BJP has been ducking this issue. Not one BJP leader addressed this question during the debate on Op Sindoor. Is BCCI or its VP more powerful and influential than the GOI?

In last 15 years, NPCIL has commissioned 2 Russian VVERs (2x1000 MW) and one 700 MW PHWR at Kakrapar. At this rate India won’t reach 20GW by 2047, against goal of 100 GW. rakeshsood.in/2025/07/23/red… I write for @TheHindu

Brilliant piece. @SushantSin

While the government clings to a domestic narrative of strength against China at the border, the ground realities are inconveniently stark. The Sino-India border is neither normal nor dispute-free. Writes @SushantSin Read more here: telegraphindia.com/opinion/strate…

India needs a change of mindset to go through the comprehensive set of reforms- policy, legislative in the Atomic Energy Act, Liability law, tariff regulation and an independent regulatory authority.

In his latest for @the_hindu, @rakeshnms argues, "If India is to meet its ambitious target of 100 GW of power generating capacity by 2047, it needs foreign partners as well as private entities to participate in the nuclear sector, which has been till now completely under the…

Israel unwilling to accept another nucl power in West Asia. Hit Osirak reactor in Iraq in 1981 and Syrian reactor in 2007 and now in Iran, hoping for regime change but it opens a Pandora’s box….. Remaking the Nuclear Order in West Asia rakeshsood.in/2025/07/08/rem…

Iran’s ldrs have now realised that the threshold state is a dangerous place to be in. It doesn’t deter Israel which is a nucl wpn state. And Bibi @IsraeliPM is determined to keep Israel as the only nucl power in West Asia I write for @TheHindu

Both US & Israel agree that Iran can’t be allowed to have a nuke; but Bibi @IsraeliPM opposes any talks or deal & favours regime change in Iran, however messy. I write for @TheHindu Remaking the nuclear order in West Asia - thehindu.com/news/internati…

Neither the Supreme Ldr’s fatwa against nucl wpns nor clean chit by IAEA that Iran isn’t making nukes, can satisfy Netanyahu. Iran is learning the hard way that being a nucl threshold state isn’t safe anymore theprint.in/opinion/iran-n… via @theprintindia I write for @ThePrintIndia

Thank you @BDUTT for moderating and to @tca_raghavan and @Ajaybis and @TheQuorumClub for a great conversation

As Modi reveals why he said no to meeting Trump in Washington ( even as Munir was scheduled for lunch with the US President) dont miss this stellar conversation with @tca_raghavan @Ajaybis @rakeshnms at @TheQuorumClub on Borders, Backchannels, Op Sindoor & India vs Pak & more

After consistently denying aircraft losses, first Air Marshal Bharti mentions on 11 May that “…losses are part of combat….”; on 31 May CDS states “..important to know why the jets were down….”. Such coy admissions don’t help shape narrative!

Breaking news: As CDS says. Important for military to see why an Indian jet (s) went down. For government, it is important to come out with more information, and for trolls to stop targeting journalists for reporting about it.

To establish deterrence, India must strengthen deterrence by ‘denial’-improve intelligence, surveillance & penetration of terrorist groups to block & plan for such attacks; enhance deterrence by ‘punishment’-raise the pain of punitive action. I write for @CSDR_India

🚨🚨India's counter-terrorism strategy has evolved from diplomatic protests to kinetic retaliation against Pakistan-sponsored attacks. But as we declare a "new normal", does this approach actually establish deterrence between nuclear neighbors? @rakeshnms deals with this…
