“I have never encountered any children in any group who are not geniuses. There is no mystery on how to teach them. The first thing you do is treat them like human beings and the second thing you do is love them.” - Asa Hilliard So important!!!!! (shared by @GholdyM - #ELATE23)

I/We need to rid ourselves of capitalistic notions that have us thinking there isn't enough for all of us!

What are we willing to let go of in order to share the privilege of access and equity across @NCTE, @NCTE_ELATE, and other communities we work with and alongside? #ELATE23 #ELATEgs #TeachingForRacialEquity

We all have areas where we can grow in our criticality. Consistent self-examination is absolutely fundamental for me in closing gaps of inequality in my own practice.

If “service is the rent we pay”, how are you critically self-examining your own impact in closing the equity gap in your service work across @NCTE_ELATE, @NCTE, and your communities of service? #ELATE23 #ELATEgs #TeachingForRacialEquity

In what ways are you paying your “rent” with/alongside English Language Arts and Teacher Education (@ncte_elate) pre-service teachers, classroom teachers, leaders, and communities across @NCTE? #ELATE23 #ELATEgs #TeachingForRacialEquity

Dr. Tonya Perry presented a powerful talk about the importance of acknowledging generations, the power of belonging, the implications of the recent Supreme Court rulings, and she charged ELATE with being committed to “doing the right thing.” #ELATE23 #TeachingforRacialEquity

Angel Reese & Caitlin Clark are a real time example of what happens in our schools & classrooms. It's an example of the way yt children are seen, allowed to show up in their full humanity, unapologetically them. Yet Black children are not seen, their spirits are murdered.

2 days ago ESPN produced a segment called ‘Caitlin Clark: Queen of Clap Backs 👑’. The focus; her clapping, “You’re down 15 points. Shut up,” and of course the “you can’t see me” hand wave. Her “trash talk” was embraced and celebrated. It wasn’t stigmatized and pathologized.

Last week, my friend Sarah (@MrsBonner301) “involuntarily resigned” from her classroom teaching position. I am so disappointed with the ways our schooling systems are failing our best teachers. With her permission, I'm going to share Sarah’s statement of resignation. 🧵
