Hi tech Twitter, I'm Joe. I made this account to help me share the story of how I ended up in a programming career, how I found myself in code after tragedy in life, and maybe be able to help some other people do the same. Here's a long thread about how I got here:
What are things that work? Focusing on value generated for the business. Getting feedback from the team on what works & what doesn't. Eliminating biggest time wasters. Qualitative feedback. Investing in ways to create leverage for engineers. Iterating how the team/org works

The @UnderdogDevs WWDC get together started out with them boys pulling up in Ducatis and Corvettes. Felt like pulling my Nissan altima around the side of the house😂
One of the greatest frauds but most essential roles of modern "news" is selling people the wrong solutions to the wrong problems in order to prevent the reduction of inequality.
Third, having gotten people focused on limited kinds of harm and panicked that those harms are ever-increasing, copaganda attempts to trick people into thinking that more $$ for police, prosecutors, and prisons is a magic solution. This is like climate science denial.
anyone interested in pair programming / mentoring aspiring developers who are either formerly incarcerated or from an economically disadvantaged background for one hour a week (zoom/meet/etc) w @UnderdogDevs to help them prepare to get their first job offer?
A quick rage-thread about credentials. When security auditors just say things like "Critical credentials need to be rotated every 90 days" you need to fire them into the sun with urgency. Here's what you actually need ...
This is kind of funny. In Stranger Things 4 they apparently wanted to show some old HTML in a "hacking" scene, so they apparently looked up an old site on the @waybackmachine but accidentally ended up copying over the injected navigation panel instead of the actual page content
Many justice impacted job seekers are overlooked due to false perceptions about their contribution to the workplace. But employers that implement second chance practices seem to have a different perspective on the formerly incarcerated.
Looks like @iosdevhappyhour and @UnderdogDevs are getting a WWDC shout out! That's so awesome!!! developer.apple.com/wwdc22/beyond-…
Imagine if wasm had an ecosystem like react. What would become possible when you combine the utility of web apps with the speed and efficiency of more efficient, lower-level code?
The most frustrating thing I've ever experienced on dev teams is unclear communication around design. A moving target is the quickest way to completely lose the plot.
Instead of rting some dude who is dunking on women, why dont you just follow a bunch of us in tech that are kickass at their jobs and would eat that guy for breakfast? Here are some : @tsunamino - @github @jordeewok - @netflix @KAryafar - @google Buy @sarah_edo book!
Been prototyping an SDK for a new API at work. More dynamic and descriptive error handling is one of the biggest benefits so far
Working with APIs in JavaScript is just... 😵 I've been trying to make an api call for hours. Invalid key is the error I keep getting, and I don't know what I'm doing wrong 😭😭
3 long term devs > 6 revolving doors
Admittedly I'm quite new here, but the revolving door of big tech company moves is something I can't rationalize. Every company ends up paying more for less experience and productivity, rather than paying similar to keep people. For employees making the moves, I get it.
Five years ago today, we banned the box. We no longer ask about criminal history on commonwealth job applications. This is a concerted effort to give people with past convictions a fair shot at employment.
When you are not sure what the code does but assume it must be important so you just leave it
