📣👀 Just appeared on @BBCLookNorth tonight discussing the concerning increase in domestic wood burners 🔥 Sales have risen 40% in recent years, leading to a worrying 135% increase in emissions 🚫🌁 I made a call for a ban on wood burners in urban areas to protect our health💪

Had a fantastic day speaking at the Sussex Air Quality Conference on the regs and impact of domestic fuel burning indoors at @SussexUni ! So many amazing, talented speakers covering diverse topics. Truly inspiring! #AirQuality

Was great to be involved in this research with @Jwheydon and @rcrohit7

For wood stoves & fireplaces, UK government advice focuses on "burn better" rather than not burning at all. But 200,000 new stoves were sold in 2022. For my latest @guardian piece I talked to researchers who tested a different approach in Sheffield. theguardian.com/environment/20…

Proud to have contributed to this study during my PhD with @Jwheydon @granthamcsf, co-designing a voluntary burn alert system trialled in Sheffield. It showed real potential to reduce wood & coal burning. Thank you @DrGaryFuller for covering theguardian.com/environment/20… #AirPollution

Did you know wood and coal-burning homes in the UK now produce more particle #AirPollution than the vehicles on our roads? 🔥 Well done to Grantham Scholars @rcrohit7 & @evergreen_v_ who co-authored the study used in this insightful @guardian article ⬇️ theguardian.com/environment/20…

The hidden lifelong legacy of childhood #AirPollution exposure. New research shows that the damage from air pollution breathed as children may only manifest in adult life. My latest piece for @guardian. theguardian.com/environment/ar…

Climate experts were increasingly saying that keeping heating below 1.5C is near impossible, yet it remains the global goal. So I asked hundreds of top IPCC scientists what they thought. What they said shocked even me… 🧵 1/n #ClimateCrisis

I see the stove industry keep pushing the misinformation that If you use seasoned wood there is no problem. They never mention the fact there is no safe limit of PM2.5 exposure & even an Eco stove burning perfectly seasoned wood is still 400x more polluting than a gas boiler.😷
