I've spent the last ~3 yrs working in energy for major utilities, companies & federal agencies. Excited to be at @nationalgrid & learning in public on my substack. Wrote my favorite piece so far on the rise of electrostates & how the US is falling behind China. Link below👇

The US added over 13 GW of battery storage in the past 12 months—a 48% increase. Total operational capacity now exceeds 40 GW. California leads with 14.6 GW. Texas is second with 12.7 GW and growing fast.

My thoughts on this interesting proposal from @SenTomCotton that creates a new legal framework for AI data centers (or other large electricity users) to bypass the public grid entirely, avoiding years-long interconnection queues that have stalled some projects. The DATA Act…

American dominance in artificial intelligence and other crucial emerging industries should not come at the expense of Arkansans paying higher energy costs. My bill will ensure that America can continue to lead in these spaces by eliminating outdated regulations.…

Last month, after I wrote my story about giga-scale data centers, two journalists at The Washington Post reached out to use Cleanview's data for one of their stories. Their piece just came out and it's a great read. Using our data, and a few other sources, @evanhalper and…

Another new storage record in ERCOT 🔋⚡️ Last Sunday, storage delivered 15% of grid power at 6:40pm, more than coal did at the same time. Expanding grid storage is taking advantage of solar resources and will make gas run more efficiently.

Since 2019 electricity demand in Texas has risen by 20%, while emissions have fallen by 7%. Lots to criticize about Texas energy policy, but I don't know of any other electric grid that has managed to do this.

This is the electron gap between the U.S. and China that @OpenAI & @chamath are talking about.

An important chart from @washingtonpost on energy costs – generation has become cheaper, but the cost of delivering energy to consumers across the grid has more than doubled.
