PHOTOSYNTHESIS: carbon dioxide + water โ†’ glucose + oxygen RESPIRATION: glucose + oxygen โ†’ carbon dioxide + water #GCSEs2018

HELPFUL LINKS FOR SCIENCE: - @Primrose_Kitten (has whole of B1 in an hour etc. very useful especially for cramming!) youtube.com/channel/UCBgvmโ€ฆ - @UKScienceguy FREE SCIENCE LESSONS youtube.com/channel/UCqbOeโ€ฆ - PHYSICS EQUATIONS SONG ( SO CATCHY!!! ) youtu.be/G3K6ZdtFZlg #GCSEs2018

if you have questions dm me and iโ€™ll try my hardest to help and answer! focusing on biology 1 tonight / tomorrow morn but also happy to help with any subjects ๐Ÿ’› #GCSEs2018

ENZYMES ARE NEVER KILLED. they are SLOW, getting faster as temp increases up to 37ยฐC (body temp) which is OPTIMUM temperature. they then slow down until they DENATURE at around 45ยฐC! #GCSEs2018

AQA B1 PRATICALS for TOMORROW! playlist which explains all in detail: youtube.com/playlist?list=โ€ฆ 1. microscopes 2. culturing micro organisms 3. effects of osmosis on plant (potato) 4. food tests 5. effect of pH on amylase 6. photosynthesis EASY MARKS IF YOU LEARN! #GCSEs2018

CHOLESTEROL FACTS: - found in blood, made in liver - too much = risk of heart disease / disease in arteries. cholesterol is transported in blood attached to proteins. low density cholesterol = build up of fat on artery walls whereas low density stops this. #GCSEs2018

DIFFERENTIATION : when cells become SPECIALISED ( eg. muscle cells in animals or root hair cells in plant cells! ) undifferentiated cells are STEM CELLS - these can then be differentiated to form particular cells. #GCSEs2018

MEIOSIS: how GAMETES are formed IMPORTANT: 1. copies of genetic material made 2. divides twice to form 4 gametes METHOD: in parent cell: - chromosomes make copies of themselves - similar chromosomes pair up - sections of DNA swap - pairs divide - chromosomes divide #GCSEs2018

PLANT CELLS: same as animals cells AND... chloroplasts - PHOTOSYNTHESIS ( contains chlorophyll ) cell wall - made of CELLulose, strengthens cell!! vacuole - contains cell sap and helps to keep cell shape!!! #GCSEs2018

ANIMAL CELLS: nucleus - contains DNA + chromosomes cytoplasm - site of chemical reactions ribosomes - protein synthesis ( where proteins are made! ) mitrochondria - site of respiration cell membrane - controls what enters and leaves the cell + holds cell together! #GCSEs2018

revision hack: watch @Primrose_Kittenโ€™s B1 in an hour on speed 1.25 or 1.5! this takes up less time but means you still get get all the detail & maybe even have time to rewatch in time for biology 1 tomorrow! #GCSEs2018

ACTIVE TRANSPORT: the net movement of particles from an area of low concentration to and area of high concentration AGAINST / UP the concentration gradient across a cell membrane. this REQUIRES ENERGY #GCSEs2018

OSMOSIS: the net movement of water molecules from an area of high concentration to an area of low concentration DOWN / ALONG the concentration gradient through a PARTIALLY PERMEABLE membrane! #GCSEs2018

DIFFUSION: the net movement of gas particles + particles in dissolved solutions through a cell membrane from an area of high concentration to an area of low concentration DOWN / ALONG the concentration gradient! #GCSEs2018

FOOD TESTS: 1. take sample of food and GRIND with distilled water using a MORTAR and PESTLE until it becomes a paste 2. put paste in beaker, add distilled water. stir so chemicals dissolve in water. 3. FILTER solution to remove suspended food particles #GCSEs2018

V = Vena Carva ( deoxygenated blood from body ) A = Right Atrium V = Right Ventricle A = Pulmonary Artery ( to lungs ) V = Pulmonary Vein ( from lungs ) A = Left Atrium V = Left Ventricle A = Aorta ( oxygenated blood to body ) #GCSEs2018
