The First Year of the Pretrial Fairness Act
Beginning September 18, 2023, the Pretrial Fairness Act fundamentally altered pretrial practices in Illinois. What can we say about the workings and effects of the new law at the one-year point?

Under the money bond system, detention hearings were brief. The Pretrial Fairness is ensuring that hearings are more robust. @CCJLoyola found the length of detention hearings increased after implementation to a median length of 10–30 minutes.
One year after implementation, the Pretrial Fairness Act has: - Significantly reduced pretrial jailing. - Saved marginalized communities $140 million that would have been spent on money bonds. - Ensured that pretrial hearing are more robust. And that's only the beginning.
