Supracellular control and coordination of tissue morphogenesis, in particular through supracellular actomyosin assemblies, that is what my lab @CellBiol_MRCLMB @PDN_Cambridge and I like to dig into at the moment! Not only fascinating but also beautiful! journals.biologists.com/dev/article/15…
People need to know that NIH grants are the backbone of American biology and thus of our biotech industry. I took a moment away from doing science to talk about how science gets done with @ojaldridge with @KUTNews about recent IDC rate cuts. kut.org/science/2025-0…

Federal funding cap on medical research fuels more uncertainty for UT Austin scientists
A new policy for how the National Institutes of Health will reimburse overhead costs associated with research grants could result in the loss of significant funding at institutions like UT Austin.
We asked you to vote your favourite 2024 @Dev_journal cover image, and the results are in! Congrats to @parahsaramore, @celestemnelson & co. for their image of embryonic mouse lungs 🫁 Find out about the 2nd and 3rd place: thenode.biologists.com/who-won-the-20…
Congratulations @SounakSahu, Mélissa Galloux, members of our BRCA Variant Analysis Unit @theNCI for this outstanding work. Sincere thanks to our collaborators Drs. Chari, Papaleo, Michailidou and their team members.
Excited to share our latest study in @Nature! We used a humanized-mouse ES cell model to explore the functional consequences of all possible BRCA2 missense variants. We've clinically classified >6,500 variants and >1,200 reported in ClinVar! @ShyamKSharan @theNCI
Online now: Radially patterned morphogenesis of murine hair follicle placodes ensures robust epithelial budding dlvr.it/TFPTyf
Proud to have contributed to this story from @lleybova and others, now out in @Dev_Cell! We show that hair follicle cell fates are radially patterned by Wnt and Shh gradients and that position and fate determine morphogenetic behavior. nam12.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%…
Yesterday a Nobel prize was given for alpha fold. Alpha fold could not exist without the Protein Data Bank (PDB), a public database funded by US taxpayers. Every structural biologist in the world that deposited their structure to the PDB indirectly helped train alpha fold.
So pleased to announce that the first chunk of my graduate work is out now in @Dev_Cell 🫁🐭🔬 here we investigated the role of the planar cell polarity complex in lung sacculation, identifying a PCP-independent role for Vangl in the pulmonary mesenchyme authors.elsevier.com/c/1isRC5Sx5gxk…
We are happy to announce our next workshop: Making scientific illustrations for papers with AI tools! You will learn how to use simple prompts to reduce the time you need to spend on preparing visuals for your papers. And focus on what is REALLY important - science itself!
Oil form droplets when mixed with alcohol, your monolayers dewet to form spherical aggregates, your friends dancing in a club form a circle, why? I’m @CHallopeau and I will tell you about the origins and consequences of interfacial tension in tissues.
Kudos!👏 to Harsha Sen, 3rd-year grad student in @R_Mallarino lab, awarded Best Student Talk in Division of EvoDevo Bio at 2024 meeting of Society for Integrative and Comparative Biology #SICB2024. The talk: "Molecular evolution and development of the mammalian gliding membrane."
Read #SDBSciCommIntern @RefriedEctoderm new interview with @maureencetera @UMNews. “I found this fascinating image of this mouse that just had whorls in [the back] half of its body, which just did not make any sense to me,” said Cetera. #planarcellpolarity bit.ly/3SwLa4r

‼️Have you ever wondered how your lungs get from baby size to adult size? Do you like learning about how planar cell polarity proteins function in weird ways in mammals? Are you a mesenchyme aficionado? ‼️ Well, do I have the preprint for you!!! A 🧵biorxiv.org/content/10.110…

I am 🚨SO EXCITED🚨 to share the first half of my graduate work, where we have uncovered a new role for the planar cell polarity protein Vangl in regulating lung sacculation, an integral part of development that occurs during late gestation! 1/11 biorxiv.org/content/10.110…
