It was a time of reckoning for LA. The justice system, police and elected leaders had failed us. But from crisis was born opportunity and a time of renewal and reconciliation. Today we find LA again at a crossroads. A city in crisis, desperate for new and courageous leadership

Yes it was President Nixon who proclaimed the first #EarthDay. His consequential work to protect the environment like creating the EPA is mostly forgotten. Sadly, there are few Republican lawmakers standing up today to stop climate change.
Another example of just how much the Republican Party has changed: Richard Nixon, a staunch conservative, created the Environmental Protection Agency and fought for cleaner air and water. Here: He and First Lady Pat Nixon plant a tree on South Lawn- #EarthDay 1970 (Nixon Library)
Whether observing Passover, Easter or Ramadan we are all Angelenos and above all Americans. We celebrate the contributions of people of all religions, races and gender identity.
Crime and gun violence surge in part to increased gang activity, as City Controller I will audit the City’s Gang Reduction and Youth Development Department. (GRYD) I was there as Deputy Controller when GRYD was created in 2008. GRYD has not been audited in at least a decade.

What a great day! She will be fantastic.
Agreed @eqca we must not let the haters roll back the decades of progress for inclusion and equality that we have fought so hard to achieve.
We cannot — and will not — let small, hateful men like Ron DeSantis continue to attack our children. Now is not the time to be silent. It’s time for our community and our allies to speak up and show LGBTQ+ children and their families across the nation that we stand with them 🏳️⚧️🏳️🌈

To the LGBTQ employees at Disney, I stand with you! As a proud LGBTQ individual I believe our community deserves A LOT more from Disney than the inadequate and weak response to the #Don’tSayGay bill in #Florida.#DisneyDoBetter #DisneySayGay #DisneySayTrans
Right on @Erika_D_Smith! Since launching my campaign for Controller last June I have called for fixing the broken LAPD disciplinary process. As Controller I will work with the LAPD IG to push for the implementation of his report.

We did it! We’re officially on the ballot. And three months to go until Election Day. Let’s do this!
Very frightening. Not only is Brittney Griner an African American woman, she is a member of the LGBTQ community. The United States government and our allies must act swiftly to get her home.
Breaking News: Russian customs officials said they had detained a star American basketball player after finding hashish oil in her luggage at an airport near Moscow. The Russian news agency TASS has identified the player as Brittney Griner. nyti.ms/3CeP2hZ
Scary. But the persecution of LGBTQ individuals, especially transgender persons, is not a rare occurrence in some countries. And In our own country we see brazen attempts to codify LGBTQ prejudice and discrimination into law. @katelinthicum latimes.com/world-nation/s…
Here I am in my Ukrainian colors. We stand with our brave brothers and sisters in #Ukraine. Freedom shall prevail!
Russia’s actions against Ukraine are unconscionable. I spoke with Foreign Minister @DmytroKuleba about increasing reports of civilian deaths, including those of children, from Russian rocket launches. All who commit atrocities should be held to account.
More good work from @Ron4CA scrutinizing how our public dollars are being spent on homelessness. I would build on this as City Controller by conducting the first ever comprehensive audit of every dollar that touches homelessness. latimes.com/california/sto…
Amen! Great six points! As Controller, I will present the first comprehensive strategic road map on homelessness to the new Mayor. We have no plan! @meridak,@marielgarzaLAT,@latCarlaHall latimes.com/opinion/story/…
