My toxic trait? Wanting to instantly be good at something new, and being incredibly mean to myself for not instantly being good at the thing.
*cough* trying to learn Vue 2 & 3, Vuex, TypeScript, SQL, C#, .NET, Docker, Azure DevOps, Visual Studio 2019, understanding massive legacy code, JS basics & advanced concepts, data management, handling, learning to think more logically... ETC... ALL IN UNDER 1 YEAR 😀
((I love that I have this opportunity to learn all the things.. but with a learning disability it's been kinda tricky, and I get very very very mean to myself when I feel like I can't excel in at least one thing))
Oof, I feel that. It gets worse the more experienced you get too.
I do this same thing! It's more about the speed for me. I keep telling myself that slowing down is good and failure is growth but it's hard to believe it in the moment!
Yeahhh I think the issue is I haven't had the time to slow down (I just had to learn and go go go), and when I "had the time", I didn't have the energy cause I needed to finally focus on myself + recovering. 🥲
This trait has not let me move on with any progress for so long, which wasted time and opportunities. But don't we learn from our own restlessness?
I like to follow that with immediately switching to another thing, because that’s what I really wanted to learn. French? C’est las movess… French is dumb. Italian. Questo e las… who speaks Italian, anyway… but Japanese!… just gotta buy 12 books first… (opens Amazon)
You mean I’m not supposed to be instantly all-knowing at the job I just started 3 months ago????
All my life, if I wasn’t instantly good at something, I dropped it and moved on. Worked for me. (By “good”, it meant I enjoyed it. Enjoyed it enough to learn to be better.)
Me as i give up on learning the guitar daily lol
To be good at something, you have to suck first....
