As a clinical health psychologist, I notice that many people are using psychological defense mechanisms to downplay the risk of COVID. These are my Top 7 examples: 🧵

Our son's neurologist told me that she's seeing post-covid strokes and brain injuries in teens and young adults, when "this NEVER happened before the pandemic," and that her cardiologist friends are seeing sudden non-MI cardiac arrests in the same age group.🧵

It can be so hard to remain professional in those panicky situations, but I'm so glad I thought to ask and didn't just brush it off, so I wanted to share the experience with everyone. Make sure the writing in your contract covers prohibiting any 3rd party's use of AI as well.

Sometimes the company you book with will send you to a studio they have a relationship with to record, so you need to make sure your contract covers that studio's ability to handle your voice work too. There's so much to consider when it comes to protection from AI.

There are two highly anticipated movies being released this week. One of them is about a controversial public figure and how they reflect the enduring cognitive dissonance between our stated values as a society and the reality of our myriad systemic hypocrisies. (thread)

It is no surprise then that “Barbie” feels like an especially potent trojan horse, beckoning us with well-earned laughter into a larger conversation on gender and how Barbie—the defining cultural symbol of high femme expression—has shaped that discourse over the past six decades.

In the last 2 years, 3 friends have died from sudden cardiac arrests. Two others have had strokes, including a 30-year-old; she died. A 40-year-old had covid 1x, and can't return to work due to severe short-term memory/cognitive deficits. Our son has lost three friends from 🧵

Looking forward to mission impossible but this @malcotheatres pinnacle hills has me staring at a centennial screen instead of the paid ads. 🤔 I haven't been to a theater in a year so I'm actually disappointed.

Note: "The patient is noncompliant with her insulin." Reality: The patient is staying at a shelter. She has no control over her food. Insurance won't pay for more insulin for it's too soon for a refill. Her current insulin supply is at her abuser's, from where she just escaped.

A California man caught covid at work. He infected his wife who ended up in ICU. So he sued his bosses. The largest lobbying group in the US got involved. The court ruled against the man because a victory would mean “dire financial consequences for employers.” Is it clear yet?🧵

I met a single mom DV survivor with 2 babies living in a tent the other day. She works full time. She hides frm services because she saw her sister reach out for "help" and get her kids taken by CPS. She's going to live in a tent with her babies until she can afford to move.

Also- I couldn’t have even pulled up my license if I tried- because wifi is out. @airfrance is it actually policy to require doctors to register with you ahead of time for medical emergencies, or is this just something your team demands of young female Drs?

When I tell a woman with interstitial cystitis to use vaginal estrogen, it's not because I don't believe she has interstitial cystitis, it's because we KNOW, we KNOW, that low hormone levels cause bladder inflammation. It's absolutely an essential part of treatment.

The fact that liberals think masking is *wildly radical* is SO embarrassing. People have gone on hunger strikes, locked themselves to buildings, gone to prison for the causes they care about. You're too chickenshit to wear a mask to protect your neighbors! Some activist you are.

I guess child labor really is a thing now. My 13 and 14-year old kids report many of their peers have jobs. I worked under the table a few hours a week in a sandwich shop at 14, but these kids are working legally, & some work long hours. Everyone has completely lost the plot.

It turns out there is not one single problem or bad guy behind this. Higher education and the economy and culture around it have changed in a LOT of ways in the last 50 years, that each individually contributed to making it more expensive to go to college.

Roxanne KG reposted

So how DID it become so expensive to go to college in America? How did a degree go from being a few-thousand dollar commitment you could pay off with a part-time job on days you didn't have class, to something you need to take out tens of thousands of dollars for? Well...

I am really terrified of the court ruling on a case based on an imaginary couple when the website designer was never asked to work for a gay couple. In the wake of allowing SB8 to continue it seems that standing is no longer a legal principle /1
