Absolutely shocking that a caring, conscientious head teacher who loved her school (she attended it as a child) and community has taken her own life following an unfavourable & seemingly contentious #ofsted inspection. System change essential. RiP #RuthPerry

Heartbroken that another headteacher took her own life as a result of an #Ofsted inspection. The public shaming of schools and their leaders must stop. We can build up & support but we choose to break down. If life has such little value the #systemisbroken bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episod…

Looking forward to seeing how Andy Nicol puts a positive spin on this for Finn Russell! #WalesvScotland #WALvSCO

A thread on #StarHobson and Social Work and #ChildProtection On one level the public response of horror at the nature of Star’s death & apparent failures by social workers, police and medics to protect her is understandable 1/

5 points about the tragic death of Arthur Labinjo-Hughes (we are unlikely to hear in the media) A frontline child protection social workers perspective. Let me know your thoughts. richarddevinesocialwork.com/2021/12/06/5-p…

“One of my biggest fears,” says @Acsocialwork, “is that this will become a ‘this must never happen again’ moment and we’ll go back to scapegoating social workers.” theguardian.com/society/2021/d…

Many large (sporting) organisations are uniting the public in grief to honour Arthur in ways not seen before. This makes it even more vital that the public are helped to understand the complex nature of such cases & why some children aren’t protected #arthurlabinjohughes

Whilst ‘understandable that strong emotional views are expressed in the immediate impact of a tragic death’, it’s important to recognise ‘that the child protection system can only aim to reduce child maltreatment, not eliminate it’. Munro, 2019 (p.108)

I carry keys in my fist and an alarm in my bag. I wear shoes I can run in. I have my phone primed for a SoS call in my pocket. I've done self-defence classes. Please tell me what I need to do to be more 'streetwise'. Please tell me how to spot a 'fake arrest'. @philAllottPFCC

Finding it hard to accept that @MoJGovUK and @HMCTSgovuk told the @CommonsPAC that remote hearings in the family court have been “very positive” when the evidence published by @NuffieldFJO is mixed

"Research on [CSE] offender ethnicity is limited, & tends to rely on poor quality data...[some] studies have indicated an over-representation of Asian & Black offenders...Most of the same studies show that the majority of offenders are White." assets.publishing.service.gov.uk/government/upl…

Really enjoyed reading this research. Reinforces the value of reflexivity, curiosity and skilful authority to disrupt unhelpful patterns of interaction

How to work with people who don’t want a service is extremely difficult & yet it is under-researched in #socialwork. Here’s our new research paper on ‘hostile relationships’ in SW practice. And it’s free! @BeddoeE @Akali65 @TDisney85 @LisaWarwick_ tandfonline.com/doi/full/10.10…

The @ChildrensComm has found 1 in 8 children in care are in unregulated placements that don't have to be inspected incl hostels & b&bs. Some are linked to criminality. Would you let your 16 or 17 year old live alone in such a place? So why are we letting children in care?
