Related: Just like English speakers TYPE IN CAPS for emphasis, people using other scripts get creative too. In Japanese, you switch to Katakana. In Arabic, you stretch letters with a kashida and in Chinese, you repeat characters. Interesting ways people use unicameral scripts!

this map is a product of a thought i had that why hindi(devnagari) doesnt have a upper ca se. Bicameral scripts have two cases. Unicameral scripts have one; very interesting strip of uni (data source: mr grok) (map by @indiainpixels)

After advising 50+ consumer companies over the last year, the one thing that separates those who can execute and those who can't: Having a full-time designer in the room at all times I've met with countless companies that have raised millions—and even one that has raised…

And now I want to tell you that the one thing I have seen in all cracked people is a love of text. A love of writing. I’ve heard over and over again that ‘I don’t write because I have nothing new to say’ and my counter to that is that you have nothing new to say because you…

Kudos to whoever came up with + designed + engineered the smart shuffle on Spotify. One of my most used features — smoothly shuffles my regular playlists with similar songs without putting the onus on me. Found many fav songs because of this!

I frequently see designers who design terrific visuals somehow never focus on the copy. Getting your message across is also part of design. Terrific visuals with terrible copy is terrible design imo.

The logo dances every time I open WA now, it's so frustrating to the core smh. Who wants AI in a messaging app!?

How many people can actually read the text at the top? Noticed the font size is too small at many points in the app.

I really like the Cricbuzz design. I think the thing that makes it different is the layout. It's neither modern design nor stat-heavy unlike CricInfo, but much easier to scan (at least for me). CricInfo has a sleek look but tries to show too much at a time imo.

Besides @hvpandya, @Godgeez and @manasjsaloi (who obviously do a terrific job), who else writes personal accounts around work (design/product) that you know of?

3 mental checks before you say something negative: 1. Praise in public, criticize in private 2. Hanlon’s Razor - assume ignorance, not malice 3. The 1-Hour Fast-Forward - how does this affect things one hour from now? Stronger relationship long-term > sick dunk now

As designers, it can be hard to feel secure and confident about our individual taste, style and judgement. What's "good" and what's "bad"? So we naturally look to our peers. This can lead to clustering and in-group out-group distinctions. And, being human, some emotions get…

I can see that 37Signals’ products look different from most other web applications. And I can see that they lean towards obviousness more than elegance sometimes. But I’ve never been able to see why people think it’s bad. Maybe I have a blind spot?
