Athi river snakes its way past the Athi bridge at Kibwezi adjacent to Yatta plateau. The 290km long Yatta plateau, one of the world's longest lava flows, is said to have flowed from Mt. Kilimambogo downstream along the path of Athi river, displacing the river sideways.

Happy new year. We start 2023 where we left off from Chala, Taveta. At the foot of Mt. Kilimanjaro lies a crater lake filled by subterranean flows from the mountain: Lake Chala. The lake straddles the 🇰🇪🇹🇿 border. Further outflow under the lake feeds Lake Jipe nearby.
