Exploring Applied AI Engineering and sharing what I learn along the way.

Everytime I read that some model reaches xyz on a specific benchmark. I think about a time in my life that could have been reasoned through and resolved by solving a math problem.

All the alpha in hiring is betting on people with weird backgrounds.

Build a knowledge graph completely from scratch is like dating without the internet. It can be done, often will lead to something incredible, but it’s so time-consuming.

Software engineers have to upskill faster than anyone else

Output limits are actually a bigger deal than context windows for many applications, and I think the other frontier LLMs are still limited to 4k. I hope Claude does the same for the chatbot, it would improve artifacts a lot.

Good news for @AnthropicAI devs: We've doubled the max output token limit for Claude 3.5 Sonnet from 4096 to 8192 in the Anthropic API. Just add the header "anthropic-beta": "max-tokens-3-5-sonnet-2024-07-15" to your API calls.

There will be a lot of buzz around fine-tuning with OpenAI now offering it to developers on all paid tiers, 1M/day free training tokens until Sept 23. It's an exciting time, but let’s take a step back and see where fine-tuning truly fits into the bigger picture. For those…

There's a big difference between building LLM-powered demos & building reliable production systems. Take this from someone who has built close to 15 LLM-powered demos in the past 8 months. When discussing these demonstrations, one of the first questions I'm asked is how did I…

How many successful b2b founders were devrel / dev-ex engineers? I believe every part of the job description is a crash course in how to be a founder.

Just wait till you're skilled enough to have the power to choose who you work with. Everything will be absolutely life-changing after that. Until then, swallow the pain and upskill.

Happy 4th Everyone 🇺🇸

AI Engineers and Content Creators have a lot in common. A great Applied AI Engineer has a lot of similarities to a great video-based Content Creator. (not talking about AI researchers — but they are great too!) What separates the seasoned content creators that have beaten the…

Imagine there's an AI Hackathon next week, and YOU will have to build a healthcare product in 48 hours. Maybe it’s a medical device prototype, a lab automation tool or a digital physician’s assistant. There is one catch... IT HAS TO BE ABLE TO INTEGRATE INTO A REAL HEALTH SYSTEM…
