1831: Students complain of “neglect” by Hotel keeper Conway's enslaved: they “have to perform the menial offices for themselves…clothes have not been washed for three weeks…have not sufficient bedding.” Conway responds by renting more enslaved people. #uvalegacies #slaveryuva
