Visa is betting on agentic commerce
AI-powered agents are entering the commerce ecosystem — browsing, comparing, and purchasing on behalf of real customers. Today, we’re making it easier for merchants to meet them there without having to re-write their existing commerce and payments stacks.
A core design principle of @stripe Shared Payment Tokens (SPTs) is to let AI agents accept any payment method (there are 100+ popular ones available globally) and then, separately, let merchants dynamically decide their best processing method—not necessarily the same method type.
Yes, payment rail flexibility was one of the key motivations in creating SPTs.
