He’s definitely right but this applies to so so much outside of cartoons. Comics, video games, fantasy and science fiction- if all you do is consume things (especially the same types/genres) you’re just going to regurgitate things. You need to widen your palate to be creative.
His last film before his first long lacunae of work - Ghosts of Mars - is, in retrospect, pretty clearly inspired by playing Doom.
i admire how lazy john carpenter is like it’s kinda cool that you can tell the exact second video games got good enough that you could just wanna do that all day every day because that ps1 landed in his lap and he was like “OH i’ll never even try and make a good movie again..”
This is why actors will never be replaced. AI figures do not have the life experience to exhibit basic human behavior. Even that “baby” is a bad actor!
