BREAKING: Tim Walz just spoke at Aliquippa High School’s Football Practice. That Walz can walk into a football practice and communicate like this makes him one of the strongest communicators in the Democratic party. Retweet so all Americans see this.https://t.co/r5M6nd37mb

A Democrat was in the White House when my family was sent to the internment camps in 1941. It was an egregious violation of our human and civil rights. It would have been understandable if people like me said they’d never vote for a Democrat again, given what had been done to…

Spread this far and wide (and watch until the end, trust me)
NEW: The Biden campaign just a released a new ad that opens with Joe Biden saying, “I'm not a young guy. That's no secret. But, here's the deal. I understand how to get things done for the American people.” So personable, funny, & good. Watch & share👇https://t.co/6FnFTD4km2
WIMBY Patrol: “Well (cue Reagan impression), let’s be brave and stand up for private equity, real estate investors/speculators, and the Urban Growth Machine. Because profiteering and market fundamentalism are human rights. And a rising tide lifts all yachts.”
We shouldn't be nice to the people who caused the housing crisis, making them feel bad for what they did is good.
Corporate landlords own the most apartments in Los Angeles. So it's no surprise that L.A. has sky-high, unfair rents. #RentControl is the only way to rein in Big Real Estate's greed. commercialobserver.com/2023/09/la-lar…

Funny, don’t see a lot of tenant advocacy groups fighting to protect corporate/hedge fund ownership of housing. If you really care about renters, then support robust rent control, anti-eviction provisions & nonprofit affordable housing instead of shilling for Wall St profiteers.
I like @JeffMerkley, but this is appalling anti-renter rhetoric. "Wall Street next door" sounds scary until you think about it for 5 seconds. Actually, next door will be a household of people renting a house. The only reason for that to be "scary" is if you dislike renters.
The core tenet of WIMBYism is deregulation a la Reagan, in other words market fundamentalism. No getting around that. The rest is just window dressing.
Since I seem to have hit the YIMBY Slack, let me reiterate - the VAST majority of YIMBYs that I have interacted with on here favor free market solutions over socialized ones. It's not even close. Stop trying to gaslight me. It ain't going to work.
In no world does refusing to give free shit to developers (FSD) “prop up homelessness and displacement.” Big Real Estate shills are so desperate to dunk that they are forced to follow the market fundamentalist myth-making playbooks of Big Tobacco and Big Oil.
Prop up homelessness and displacement to own the developers. Yassssss girlboss queeen yasssssss 🤪
I wanna thank the hardcore YIMBYs who interacted with me today. You reminded me just how insanely committed to developer profits you are. I don't think I understood how many of you are just Ayn Rand simps.
Major WIMBY groups sit on their hands when it comes to real tenant protections like the repeal of Costa-Hawkins/Ellis in CA. Any “support” for tenant protections by these dark moneyed groups is nothing more than lip service to justify putting the foxes in charge of the henhouse.
A much better analogy for YIMBY would be Republican tax cuts for the rich. "This will benefit everyone! Sure the rich will benefit first and directly, but it will trickle down to the poorest eventually in some undefined way."
Noah, as an analogy, why do you think social security was designed to benefit all Americans and not just the poorest? The answer to that might help explain the universal appeal and success of YIMBYism.
As Walter Mondale once said in reference to Reaganomics: “A rising tide lifts all yachts.”
A much better analogy for YIMBY would be Republican tax cuts for the rich. "This will benefit everyone! Sure the rich will benefit first and directly, but it will trickle down to the poorest eventually in some undefined way."
They’re not only dishonest, they’re arrogant, tetchy, self-righteous, and chicken-shit to boot (just look at their hair-trigger blocking of skeptics). What’s more, they’re wrong. About supply-side housing theories. About corporate greed. About Americans’ housing preferences.
People actually dislike YIMBYs because they’re dishonest. They claim to advocate for housing ✨😀 for everyone 😀✨ but it’s really housing for themselves: youngish professionals. The outcome of their policies is a slight reduction in new condo prices only they can afford.
4/ New York is one of the richest cities in the history of the world. Asking developers to pay for better streets and public spaces is unnecessary and counter productive. At its most extreme, it gives us places like Atlantic Yards and Hudson Yards, which have cost New York…
