If you look at Théodule-Augustin Ribot's still-lifes (this is a basket of quince from c1870) for long enough you will see they are typically arranged like a group portrait, with rows, one in front of another, like close and nervous families, a little bit huddled and withdrawn.

'Dusk in Browning Street.' (c1954) Edward Seago painted many views of London throughout his career. His streetscapes from the 1950s are some of his most accomplished, showing to best effect his mastery of light and reflection.

The BBC has its flaws but it remains a great cherished national institution. Shame on Tice, Kruger and the Reform leadership that they side with Trump and his absurd lawsuit against the BBC. Reform is literally traitorous - today’s insidious incarnation of Lord Haw-Haw

Monet's The Magpie was rejected by the 1869 Paris Salon for its innovative style. This rejection led Monet to organize impressionist exhibitions. It's now considered a masterpiece of early Impressionism.

Nigel Farage's new strategy is to call the childhood victims of his racism liars while lashing out at any journalists who dare to report his actions. This is just a small taster of how he would act if he ever got any power

'Green Fields at Sunset.' Joan Eardley rarely strikes a false note. Although a flair for pictorial construction is evident even in the freest of her sketches, these are deeply felt personal responses, momentary sensations, and what she called 'the notion of landscape inside me.'
