Last preparations for Operation Black Buck. It will require two Vulcans (one as backup) 13 Victors and 1 Nimrod, with 19 refuellings, 1.5 million lbs of aviation fuel and twenty-one 1,000lb bombs per Vulcan. Here is the refuelling plan: all worked out on a Casio calculator.

Football is essentially becoming post-modern, with every decision being contested, litigated, reviewed and revised. If I can be allowed to quote my unpublished magnum opus, the only question is whether it will tilt to a right or left wing version of postmodernism.

I thought this must surely be a typo, but no, the French really do charge €60,000 tax on cars emitting more than 194 g CO₂/km. Incroyable. And there's more... 1/n

Białowieża Primeval Forest has been described as Europe’s Serengeti or Great Barrier Reef. Yet in most circles outside Poland, the forest remains little known. I’d like to help change that, so here are six reasons why the forest is so precious ⬇️🧵

It’s slightly unbelievable that this exists on the railway in 2024 — but it does and *everyone* should experience it. You can dine no matter your ticket and the food and the service is outstanding. A little pocket of joy in the world we find ourselves in today. 😍🙌🏻

A must-read thread for anyone interested in the history of Bristol and the First World War…..

1/ A thread on the fabulous postwar link between Bristol and Bethune, the British League of Help, building of new housing, a big visit for the unveiling & then a sad end to this tale of Bristolian generosity. Honestly, you don’t have to be from #Bristol to find it interesting!
