It's gotten steadily worse. I am non-core but my neighborhood is C-Train adjacent and the convenience stores have started putting locks on everything now due to shoplifting running concurrent with the exodus of addicts to neighborhoods along the train routes.
Its so frustrating, I deal with this daily as well. The train is disgusting and I can't count the amount of times junkies are doing drugs on the train i'm on. Or Stephen ave, which was once a great social area at lunch is now an open drug use area with people overdosing.
10+ years ago downtown Calgary was beautiful, I had never seen someone OD, die, or pass out with a needle in their arm. Now that is a common site, that I didn't think would be something I'd be familiar with. They need to close the safe consumption sites, they don't work.

Seattle, Portland, SF and LA make Calgary seem demure. Agree with the view though. We are relearning that if you don’t uphold the little rules, then it’s impossible to uphold the big rules. Have to fight for civic righteousness because we can all see when things are wrong.
