It made my day yesterday to see this promoted in the office of @UKRI_News and clearly thriving in the wild! Thanks as always goes to my friend across the pond @misoca and the original inspiration of #serendipity from Pedro Medina. Explanation here: gurteen.com/gurteen/gurtee…

There are tools you can buy to set them up like fabnhsstuff.net/fab-stuff/a-to…, but we have our own spreadsheet that produces the random matches and then someone sends out an email.

Randomised coffee trials are the best thing I've found. Give you structured serendipity / permission for conversations without "tasks" overshadowing.

Thanks for sharing @SueLaceybryant . Randomised coffee trial would be a good tool to help us get to know new staff as we head back into the office @necs

Just published my first LinkedIn article in forever on why everyone should do randomised coffee trials - please have a read on how I did it and what I learned. Would love to know if you've done these too! 👇☕️ linkedin.com/pulse/sproutin… #internalcomms #rct #orgculture

Random coffee (nesta.org.uk/blog/instituti…)- is there a way to use tech to easily help arrange? Thanks

It seems there is an emerging consensus that the big challenge for remote work is establishing and breaking out of a network. I don't view this as an insoluble problem, but it's important to be realistic about challenges, if only to direct efforts to solving them.

Our paper, just published in @NatureHumBehav, uses diff-in-diff to separate the effects of remote work from COVID-19. Remote work causes more siloed communication between workers, more time spent on IM and email, and, surprisingly, less time in meetings. nature.com/articles/s4156…

Everyone you meet knows more about something than you do.

Randomised Coffee Trials are an insurance mechanism.  You structure your time as effectively as you can, but if you accept even the smallest possibility that you might have overlooked something, design a space for randomness as that is a crucial source of #serendipity. #tweet100
