Happy to see this paper published as part of the 'Rising Stars in Photonics' special issue. Thank you @ACSPhotonics Stochastic Thermodynamics of a Linear Optical Cavity Driven on Resonance | ACS Photonics pubs.acs.org/doi/10.1021/ac…
Suddenly my feed changed drastically. Before I was mostly getting US political stuff. Now it is back to being mostly science!😁 Others too? Did X finally realized how many people migrated to bsky (and that they won the election)?
If you studied physics, you probably shot a laser at a grating and saw the diffraction pattern. What do you think happens if that grating is nonlinear? Bloch's theorem & conservation of parallel momentum hold? Check out our latest PRL to find out! journals.aps.org/prl/abstract/1…
Excited to be part of this event!
Dont beleive the #quantum hype! Quantum is a great fundamental research field - always was always will be. At some point we will leverage it for commercial devices but likely not what u hear about today. great video from @skdh youtube.com/watch?v=RtDwpO…

If you are sensing with a time-integrated intensity, ensemble averaging can outperform time averaging by orders of magnitude. Check out our latest paper to see why. Phys. Rev. Research 6, 033245 (2024) - Weak ergodicity breaking in optical sensing journals.aps.org/prresearch/abs…
5-6 conferences a year is roughly what I do. But I see many of my colleagues do 10+. Anyways, how are you going to convince (force?) people to reject invitations when they have new results and money to go? Those far, with big groups. etc. will claim they *need* to travel more...
Very proud of our group member, Roos de Boer, who won the best talk award at the Complex Nanophotonics Science Camp. Amazing: She's just in her first PhD year, and the level was very high. We're blessed to have her in our group at @_amolf 😃
Have you wondered what the first and second law of thermodynamics look like for light in a resonator? Check out our preprint 👇 We also discuss fluctuation theorems (so-called "transient violations of the 2nd law). 😉 arxiv.org/abs/2407.19063
#optics #photonics colleagues: Anyone has experience with the Hubner C-wave? If you do, can you please let me know if/where I can reach you to ask for your opinion/experience? Thanks!
Check out our arXiv 👇. The first observation of CW nonlinearity in a perovskite. We also leverage the NL to rotate the polarization state of light, and introduce a technique for uncovering a phase transition of matter: optical hysteresis. arxiv.org/abs/2407.05856
Remember when google claimed quantum supremacy in 2019? They said they solved a problem that would take 10,000 years for a state-of-the-art classical computer to solve. Now this group 👇 solved it in 14 seconds, and in 17s with a much lower energy cost. arxiv.org/abs/2407.00769
What this post and its many replies show, IMO, is that research statements are obsolete. Search committees need to 1 up their game. Brief online interviews with simple Qs requiring depth of thought are much more insightful and take less time than figuring out if LLM wrote it.
To all prospective PhD students of the world: If you generate your research statement using chatGPT, your grade will be 0, and you will not be invited to the interview. So, please save your and the committee's time.
📢 We are excited to introduce our next Topical Meeting at #EOSAM2024: TOM8 - Nonlinear and Quantum Optics Invited speakers in this TOM: @jstotero, Karolina Slowik, Hui Cao More info: bit.ly/3L9f2R5 🗓️ Early Bird Deadline: July 8 🔗 Register here: conftool.com/eosam2024
After 4! years of peer-review, including many vicious and glorious reports, we finally published this. I feel VERY proud of this paper, yet I deeply regret the pain that it caused to my PhD student G Keijsers. A brilliant student who spent 4 years answering unreasonable referees.

On March 10 my wife and I welcomed into this world our beloved daughter Sofia ❤️. Our colleagues from Nanophotonics at @_amolf sent these amazing gifts, that will surely make for wonderful learning experiences. Can't wait to hear her questions! 🤗
