One reason I trust the Bible: it doesn't hesitate to report the sins and shortcomings of its leading characters. They're hot then cold, good then evil, humble then proud, strong then weak. Complex, complicated, real, fallen people desperately in need of grace in Christ. Like us.
“After you have suffered a little while, the God of all grace, who has called you to his eternal glory in Christ, will himself restore, confirm, strengthen, and establish you.” 1 Peter 5:10 A brief life of trouble. Then, with eternal glory: Everything broken mended. Made…
"...making peace by the blood of his cross." - Col. 1:19 Peacemakers neither sacrifice the truth to appease wrongdoers nor sacrifice love to oppose them. They pay the price to reconcile them for their good and God's glory.
“Do not despise the Lord’s discipline or be weary of his reproof, for the Lord reproves him whom he loves, as a father the son in whom he delights.” Proverbs 3:11–12 I delight in you. I love you. I wound you. Trust me.
The heart of the righteous ponders how to answer, but the mouth of the wicked pours out evil things. –Proverbs 15:28
Be not envious of evil men, nor desire to be with them, for their hearts devise violence, and their lips talk of trouble. -Proverbs 24:1

460 years ago today, John Calvin died at age 54 on May 27, 1564 and was buried in an unmarked grave at his request. A few days earlier he completed his commentary on Joshua, stating in the introduction that God raises up gifted leaders for his church and then takes them away,…
THE 'FIRST EDITION' OF THE NEW TESTAMENT Not quite, but this is perhaps the closest we have: the Papyri P45, P46 & P47, mainly now in the Chester Beatty collection, date from the 3rd century & contain parts of all 4 Gospels, Acts, the Pauline epistles, Hebrews & Revelation. 1/3
Rylands P52 fragment is the oldest papyrus ever found of the New Testament. It’s from the book of John and includes parts of John 18:31-33 on the front and John 18:37-38 on the back. P52 dates to around 125 AD which is within 40-60 years of John writing the gospel. Incredible 🙌🏻
"Because I live, you also will live." – Jn. 14:19 The epitaph of every earthly king: He lived. The epitaph of the King of kings: He lives!

Christians sing when we’re happy. We sing when we’re sad. We sing in the good times. We sing in the bad. We do this because we are Christians.
