This is really important. How can we include strategies to build executive functioning in our classroom routines and expectations?

Executive function remains one of the most reliable predictors of success in academics—and in life. Here's the research on what it is, and how to cultivate it. ✈️

Participating in EMC2 session at ISTE23!! “We don’t want students to be behaviorally engaged. We want students to be cognitively engaged.” John Meehan #EMC2 #ISTE2023

Guard against letting your inner peace be dependent upon what others do or don’t do for you.

I heard this great idea today: “Tell me what you watch and I’ll tell you who you are.” Our habits define us. What are we feeding our minds and spirits?

Always start with the KUDs- what do I want learners to Know, Understand, and be able to Do?

This thinking routine can be applied to so many content areas!

the beauty of simple protocols such as these that promote self-reflection and inquiry

This is so true! Being metacognitive about giving ourselves grace also enables us to better extend it to others.

We have to give ourselves grace since we are first learners (every day) before we are teachers. Sometimes, the weight of our responsibilities makes learning something new feel like an indictment of what we didn’t do (know) yet.

This seems so easy to do but requires a mind-shift in educators. Sometimes the pressure of pacing causes educators to struggle with giving themselves permission to be flexible. #ISTE22 #NotatISTE22

I am often asked, "How do I infuse autonomy and choice into student assignments?" It starts with flexibility 💪🏻 in the product 📦 or process 🚜#udlrising #ISTE2022 #NotatISTE22 #accessibility

ISTE takeaways from this morning: Google Applied Digital Skills- ready to use, self-paced lessons that teach learners how to use tools and do things from creating a certain kind of writing to completing the FAFSA! Thanks Christia Osborn-Preston! #ISTELive22

It’s important to consider our words when welcoming students back to learning!

It may have been a hard Winter Break for lots of folks. As we return to school/work, instead of asking about the break, try greeting people by saying: “It’s good to see you. I’ve missed you. Is there anything you’d like to share?”

Behavior is a message. What are you hearing?

We need to help students cultivate stamina for struggle.

We are preparing students to be successful… but we also need to prepare them to fail. Life is not easy. We need to teach students how to overcome adversity.
