A lot of what @MarkUrban01 says here rings true with me, from my (admittedly far shorter) experience in BBC newsrooms.

As a ex BBC journalist, I feel that S Shah's description of the Trump edit as an 'error of judgement' is a weak apology. It was a grossly misleading piece of editing. And the fact that it was missed (or worse condoned) by senior editors is arguably an even more serious failing.

Hear, hear to this. To which I'd add always give people second chances.

We judge people too much by their fleeting opinions—and too little by their consistent actions. Anyone you meet is likely to hold some views you dislike. No one is as bad as their worst idea, and no belief is set in stone. The true test of character is how people treat others.

Oh no! I think I’ve left my leather satchel and laptop on an Overground train (Hounslow to Victoria) that I exited at Vauxhall at about 14.20. It has my MacBook in it. I don’t expect a miracle but I guess saying it out loud here is all I can do. It has lots of my work on it :(

#r4today Pointless for Emma B to question the FA head on tactics/use of subs and Serena W's future. A person in that position is never going to comment in those areas on the eve of a final.

With the paywall down, I thought I’d reshare this one from last week about Ash Wednesday and my unexpected midlife enthusiasm for churchgoing… thetimes.com/article/6fde34…

I couldn't agree more. The SEND label tells you nothing about an individual child so categorised. Physical disabilities, disruptive behaviour, serious mental disabilities, and much milder problems are lumped together under one heading. This isn't understood outside schools.

The government’s inclusion tsar has said he would like to see the term SEND 'retired', as he spoke of problems with the current 'medicalised model' for special educational needs and disabilities buff.ly/otLtIB5

Clear, strong stuff on ukraine/usa/europe from @BenWallace70 on @BBCr4today. If Ukraine fight on, we, on this side of the Atlantic, must support them.

Prioritise behaviour (in classrooms and corridors) above everything else. Without calm, and the absence of disruption, everything else is irrelevant.

'Will give every child?' Why can't Govt politicians of all parties be more honest? I don't doubt Labour's good intentions here. But no Government for decades has managed to get rid of the long, long tail of under-achievement in schools. How can Starmer be so certain?

My government's Plan for Change will give every child the best start in life. Our mission will break down the barriers to opportunity and rebuild Britain so people across our country are better off. mirror.co.uk/news/politics/…

If you really want to improve life chances of children from relatively impoverished backgrounds in inner cities where deprivation is high and educational aspiration low, then shine a light on schools like Michaela in London and give public support to the approach of @Miss_Snuffy

📤 Began our first step of recruiting 6,500 new teachers 🫵 More qualified teachers at the front of classrooms, giving your children more quality facetime to support their learning, driving high standards and improving their life chances.

While most of us are worrying about what to get our families for Christmas, some of us are worrying about that AND what they'll get to eat, or where they'll have to stay. crowdfunder.co.uk/p/sufra-winter…

Keep it up, Katherine. One day your achievement, for wave after wave of kids in this part of London, will be properly recognised.

In 2023/24, we fought off an existential battle in the courts for our school Michaela. At the same time, we drove towards GCSE and A level exams, producing eye-watering headline figures and a Progress 8 of 2.55. What we have achieved is more amazing than people will ever know.

It was praised by @amanda_spielman this week, but (I hope I'm not doing her a disservice) I don't think I heard her saying the same thing when she was head if Ofsted.

The Michaela Community School, a free school set up by Katharine Birbalsingh, has been ranked the best school in the country for the third year in a row. Why not even a smidgen of praise from the Education Secretary? dailysceptic.org/2024/12/07/why…

You're right, Ms Spielman, it is an amazing school. But (correct me if I'm wrong) why did you not celebrate it publicly when you were head of Ofsted?

An amazing school that deserves to be celebrated

More damning evidence of how British universities have lost their way: recruiting overseas students who can't speak English, but who can pay. The malaise started with the misguided Blair 50% target.

Powerful doc on BBC File on 4 tonight. Scandal of universities favouring high-fee paying international students over Brits, irrespective of grades. Amazing testimony from insider recruiter. Thanks ⁦ @BBCFHewison ⁩ and ⁦ @CarlJohnston2bbc.co.uk/sounds/play/m0…

Whatever else may, or may not, come out in this specific case, let's take the opportunity to support the principle of rehabilitation of offenders, and the wider principle of forgiveness. Everyone should have a second chance.

Is there more to come out? Unless there is, resignation of @LouHaigh is very odd & disappointing. A minor, spent, conviction a decade ago, apparently declared, should not bar someone from office. I’m sure Prisons Minister Lord Timpson, who employs ex-offenders, agrees.
