Very excited for this 🚨NBER Working Paper 🚨with @pbiscaye, @stevepuller, and the ever-twitterless Catherine Wolfram. Many governments subsidize electricity 💡 during economic crises. What does this actually look like in practice? A 🧵on distributional concerns in Ghana:
Disbursing crisis relief through utilities can be fast and efficient, but careful implementation is required to avoid regressive impacts and imperfect targeting, from @BerkouwerS, @pbiscaye, Steven L. Puller, and Catherine Wolfram nber.org/papers/w28818
Today we @TAMU hosted a virtual conference for high school guidance counselors to discuss what economics is really about, why it's a great major and what kinds of jobs it leads to. The workshop was led by Asst Dept Head Kurt Felpel, Prof @danilaserra_eco, and Prof Jonathan Meer
How much do pre-docs provide mobility between undergrad state schools and top PhD programs? Does pr(admission) at top PhD programs go up significantly if the smart state school student pre-docs? If admission committees behave this way, shouldn't we let students have this chance?
I’m seeing lots of ads from faculty in top/rich Econ departments this week hiring full-time pre-docs. You sure you all can’t just admit these talented students into your PHD programs, let them train and coauthor with you, and get on with their adult/professional lives? 🤷♀️

Are natural resources a blessing or curse for economic development? See @robmun12's JMP thread to find out! Personal note: Roberto has been an absolute pleasure to advise (w/ @stevepuller) and it's amazing that he has 3 great papers as a 4th year student.
At #SEA2018, I presented my JMP "A Blessing or a Curse? The Long-term Effect of Resource Booms on Human Capital and Living Conditions." A long-standing question in development economics is if resource abundance is a blessing or a curse for a country (Sachs and Warner, 1999).
.@TAMU Econ is hiring in IO and Macro this year. Both searches are targeting Assistant, Advanced Assistant, and Associate level candidates. JOE ads follow. Don't hesitate to get in touch if you're interested.
