Last week I attended #DNC3ALED where I presented a paper related to my MSc project dedicated to finding out the views of the university faculty in Russia on the proposal to substitute up to 1/3 of classes at universities with compulsory online lectures by leading universities #DN

Sounds like a must watch!

I have just finished watching Episode 1 of Chernobyl on @HBO. My perspective is that of someone born and raised in the Soviet Union who has vivid memories of 1986, the catastrophe itself and how it was handled by the Soviet politicians and the state media...

Very useful thread! For the first few years of teaching I expected Freshmen to KNOW how to write emails but then figured: what they learned for a school exam (emails, too!) isn't perceived as real-life skills by them. So I greatly minimized my irritation by teaching them how to!

Don't stay on the high horse of "they should already know". You can't retroactively make your students HAVE LEARNED something before they get to you. All you can affect is what they learn from you now. If that thing is email, so be it.

meanwhile in #traditionalvalues Russia: magazine called Happy Parents runs a column (written by psychologist!) arguing that beating girls is OK when they “provoke” boys. boys not beating girls in response to provocations “may have negative impact on their sexual orientation” 😳
