At home, but my heart & mind are still residing in the storytelling space created by the #TalesofScotland This LifeStory podcast (a Wee Museum of Memory program) offers models for storytelling. Looking forward to more workshops with them. #FFTFellow podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/lif…
Second day home & I am enjoying Miles Tubb’s Forgotten Songs podcast. His Wee Museum of Memory was a fortuitous find on our #TalesofScotland journey. The lessons learned here will influence and enrich our programs next year. #FFTFellow podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/for…
The customized Bespoke Workshop at the Scottish Storytelling Center brings our trip to a close with so many tools for our storytelling toolkit. We got to experience the thrill (and anxiety) of pushing outside of our comfort zone to try something new. #FFTFellow #TalesofScotland
We toured the Wee Museum of Memories and connected with the founder of this innovative space. The aim is to prompt storytelling memories for elderly using artifacts from the past. But, there are plenty of programs for youth, too. #FFTFellow #TalesofScotland
Steve the Nessie Hunter holds the Guinness World Record for the longest continuous vigil to see the Loch Ness Monster. Students are crazy about legends and the Guinness World Records. This story is one I cannot wait to tell them. #FFTFellow #TalesofScotland
The battlefield at Culloden Moor reminded us of how the stories we tell depend on our perspective and the passage of time. Storytelling with an understanding of those nuances will allow us to build more critical thinkers. #FFTFellow #TalesofScotland
Not only did Cath give us an absolutely fantastic story tour of Inverness, she offered to meet with our students next year and help us create a collaboration with a primary school in Scotland. We are so excited for this opportunity to expand the story. #FFTFellow #talesofscotland
It was an outstanding day at the Scottish Crannog Center where we learned the art of storytelling and Iron Age crafting. Our storyteller has prepared a list of resources for further study, too. #FFTFellow #TalesofScotland
Our Instagram tour of Scotland had us thinking beyond the history of place. Turning the focus to noticing the visually appealing and framing the story found there. Is a picture worth a thousand words? What stories could our students write using well framed picture prompts?
There are hundreds of years of history within the walls of Edinburgh Castle. Our favorite part was the stories told from children’s perspectives and mined from local archives. Putting the emphasis on children’s voices is a cornerstone of our #FFTFellowship #TalesOfScotland
We spent some time at the Royal Botanical Garden of Scotland exploring plant connections to storytelling and getting ideas for our storywalk at school. It is a lovely space with many ideas for building outdoor connections to writing. #FFTFellow #TalesofScotland
Our students love a good scary tale, so we were excited to add this evening tour of the underground vaults to our itinerary. Storytelling tips from this tour: have listeners act parts of the story, repetition of key ideas, and go on location as much as possible. #FFTFellow
We had a good time exploring the National Library of Scotland, including viewing the National Treasures Exhibit, checking out the children’s reading room, and learning about book binding. #FFTFellow #TalesofScotland
The Scottish Storytelling Center was our first stop of the morning. We created a solid bibliography of titles to help us with coaching writers/storytellers. We’ll be back to meet with a storytelling expert who is conducting a customized bespoke workshop just for us! #FFTFellow
I forgot to post pictures from our arrival in Edinburgh last night. The castle view from our lodging was a welcoming site. Weary as we were from 36 hours of traveling, we were energized to go out to eat and take these pictures of our first night in the capital city.
We found Scotland’s national animal tucked into the bookcases at Hudsons in the Atlanta airport. It inspired us to compose some book spine poetry about our journey so far and expectations of the magic to come. #FFTFellow #TalesofScotland
We made it through our first travel challenge. Airline cancellations has us scrambling to get close to Edinburgh. Thanks to Todd @Delta for helping us get a flight to Heathrow. We’ll take a train from there. 🤞🏴 we are still coming for you! #FFTFellow #TalesofScotland
