From what I hear that scene is being hailed as one of the best scenes in the film. Why?? Because white fragility.
Why couldn't the actual events have been in the film?? Why make something heroic for the white male character?? Because white fragility.
And she used the white people toilets instead. This is a far more powerful statement than inventing something for the white character.
What actually happened is that one of the brilliant women simply refused to run across the NASA building to use the coloured toilets
Saying something along the lines of "at NASA we all use the same bathrooms" or whatever. Historically speaking THIS DIDN'T HAPPEN.
I heard that in Hidden Figures, there's a scene where Kevin Costner's character tears up the sign to the coloured toilets in protest...
I am eternally irked by the way in which we must placate and coddle whiteness when making films about black excellence.
