Very likely is a big stretch. Utah’s really at #14 with the top rated ACC team (VA behind them) & G5 getting an auto bid. Utah needs to move up to 9/10 to get in, which is possible, but very far from probable if they don’t make the CCG.
It’s really plain & simple now for Utah. Win out, even if they don’t make the Big 12 Championship Game, & they’re very likely in the 12 team CFP. No close games would also be ideal, BUT that might not even be necessary. Just win.
Last year's No. 6 ranking in the second CFP release remains BYU's best-ever CFP ranking. BYU's first two CFP rankings last season (9th, 6th) are BYU's only two top-10 CFP rankings all-time.

Very reasonable take here. Odds of the BIGXII getting 3 teams in is still very unlikely.
Big 12 getting 3 teams is far from guaranteed — in fact unlikely. BYU vs TT will likely play twice. If BYU loses both they are out. If they split, likely both in (depending on how) If Utah makes it to the CCG and loses they are out. Only one scenario where they all make it.
I would even go as far as saying how the split will affect it. If BYU wins this weekend but TT wins the conference — both in. If it’s reversed, I could see TT maybe getting snubbed depending on how the rest of the landscape shakes out. Recency bias is a thing.

At No. 13, can Utah get into the College Football Playoff without earning a spot in the Big 12 title game? I’d guess no since it’s likely not a three-bid conference, but that also depends on BYU and Texas Tech.
If only they had a head to head with Texas Tech and BYU to figure this out
