This analysis by @jburnmurdoch is great. It echoes what @centrefortowns and @lisanandy have been saying and what young people living in 'left behind towns' told us in focus groups - aspiration inextricably linked to moving to areas in the upper quads rather than staying at home.
By combining these two measures — a place's economic output and its residents' incomes — we can also begin to paint a clearer picture of "left behind" areas: Places where the local economy is stagnant *and* incomes are low. These are the places most in need of intervention.
