Somebody in our office keeps turning the buttons in the elevator sideways. I keep turning them back. I would say that things are escalating, but alas — it’s an elevator, not an escalator. #ButtonGate

The word is out! I am delighted to share that I will be returning to Florida State University in Fall 2024 as Assistant Professor of Musicology in Community Music. Super excited to be a part of FSU's new and innovative community music program and to be moving back to Tallahassee!

Idk how to express this to the people who need to hear it but the benefits of restricting or eliminating asylum — if your goal is to reduce border crossings — are extremely speculative and indirect, while the harms are concrete and certain.

Question for my (ethno)musicolgy folks. For job talks, do you prefer to include a few general "introduction" slides of your research projects, or is a more focused/conference-style presentation the norm?

Friends, I have a few more 🟦🌤️ invites if anyone needs one!

I'm sorry that I will miss everyone at #SEM_2023 this year. If you ARE attending, however, be sure to check out some of these awesome education section events!

Hi all! I have three invite codes for 🟦🌤️ if anyone needs one.

Ope. They caught me dancing. 🎻🎶👞

The Scandinavian American Old-Time Dance Music Ensemble warming up with a hoppwaltz before last night’s Bowery Dance; Beth Rotto gives instructions for a group dance as she begins her set. Great turnout, great music, great venue, and great weather! Couldn’t ask for more!

The problem (non-problem?) with going to Scandinavian-American music festivals is that it takes a minimum of two weeks to get "There's No Norwegians in Dickeyville" out of your head. youtube.com/watch?v=gm5T_t…

We're still calling them "tweetups," right? Either way, @UWMadison made the BEST HIRE, so I finally got to "tweetup" with @gcornish91 today!

My department took a field trip to the Milwaukee Art Museum for the Scandinavian Design exhibit today. We all packed lunches, and it reminded me of grade school in the best possible way. (University/Adult field trips for the win.)

Looking forward to attending my first @afsfolklorists meeting in November! @M_Cederstrom, Anna Rue, and I will be presenting a panel titled “Navigating Revitalization and Heritage Work in Nordic American Music and Dance Communities.” Come say hello!
